Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to our most frequently asked questions about building drying following a leak.

Q: Can I use my own dehumidifier?

In most cases, no. A domestic dehumidifier of any kind is not capable of extracting the level of moisture in the time scale required to mitigate secondary damage.

Q: My concrete floor looks dry. Can I carpet?

Concrete sub floors often look and feel dry but water can be deep seated. It is important various tests are carried out to determine its state before flooring over.

Q: Can I hire an industrial dehumidifier myself?

Yes, you can and you may be able to achieve the necessary dry state. Determining this dry state and the initial calculation of which drying system is required is a technical process and must be correct to truly achieve a dry state.

Q: Does Maystone issue a dry certificate?

We do. We provide a dry certificate relevant to the specific day we test and deem dry.

Q: Your prices are standardised on Leak Detection and Damp Surveys, is this the case with drying?

No. There are too many variables meaning we have to assess each job and determine its requirements before quoting.

Q: How long will it take to dry my property?

This varies depending on the amount of water to be dried. Generally if it is deemed a drying professional is required to dry your property then you’re probably looking at a minimum of 1 week.

Q: Will opening my windows dry my property?

Yes, providing the relative humidity is lower externally compared to internally.

Q: Am I insured for building drying?

This depends on what the cause of the excess water was and what your particular policy covers you for. Your insurer is the only one who can accurately answer that question.
